It was an early start today to make my journey to the great state of Wisconsin. 9 o’clock flight at Liberty International in New Jersey. Another planes, trains and automobiles event. From Newark New Jersey to Wisconsin (by way of Milwaukee, Lake Geneva, Madison) and back to Philadelphia.
When I got to Newark Airport I learned there was a terminal change for my flight. I had to take a train over to the correct terminal. When I got to the TSA line something interesting was happening. The TSA line was longer than the regular security line– wow! Total opposite. From that moment I could sense this could be an odd day, and it truly was. I boarded a very small plane like a two-seater. Well, not really a two-seater maybe a 10 seater, ha ha ha…….. but it was small. Surprisingly though the flight was great, smooth, small and quick. I just touched down in Milwaukee, I had never been to Milwaukee, the badger state. This is another one of those small airports where equipment needs to be upgraded ha ha ha ha!!!
As soon as I stepped off the plane, I encountered a major change in the temperature. It felt like it was going to snow.😮 This airport is deserted, kinda like a little mom-and-pop airport. Milwaukee just the way I like it with no hassle. I took a nice relaxing walk through the airport. There was not a lot of people. Folks smiling as they walked to the baggage claim. I took my time getting there, grabbed a cup of tea, without waiting in a long line, just the way I like it!! I’m sitting here waiting for my bag to come off of the baggage machine. Approximately eight people standing to get there belonging, nice!
Just as I scooped up my bag I received a text from one of my best friends in the WORLD, Debbie Lynn McGoldrick. She was picking me up. We spent time at her summer home in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, William’s Bay and then traveled to Madison for the BIG FINALE.
William’s Bay is an amazing, relaxing place. We spent time walking around the beautiful lake, eating good food, sharing conversation, catching up on family news and chatting about memory lane. Debbie and I have been close friends since I was 14 years old, yep she was my physical education teacher and coach when I entered junior high school. Yes, we have been friends for over 40 years. Debbie and her family spend summers on Lake Geneva every year.
The drive to Madison was about 1 hour and 20 mins, not far at all. When we were traveling to our destination, we came across some unusual street names, “Starry Starry Night Dr.” There was also lots of corn scenery along the way. We arrived in Madison around 5:30 pm. As we drove into the city of Madison we were greeted by a massive structure; the huge Capital building.
We quickly found a place to have a meal at a place called the Blue Moon. It looked exactly the part, just how I imagined to be- dark lighting, college environment, and college feel. This is a huge college town.
We arrived at the stadium around 6:45pm. Parking was tricky and obscure. We drove pasts the parking lot 10 times before we discovered it. Well, not really 10 times- ha ha ha! It was a challenge and on top of that we parked in the wrong lot and received a ticket when we left the game.
There was a chill in the air. An amazing night for a soccer game, nice and crisp. The tap was quick and first half was under way. The Lady Lions settled in and battled for possession. Both teams were playing to their strengths. Halftime no score 0-0. Second half underway. In the 52 minute Wisconsin finds the back of the net, on the board 1-0. The Lady Lions battle back to equalize but time runs out and the Lady Badgers win 1-0.
This concludes the weekly blogging for the regular season. It’s been an a fun and amazing journey chasing Greatness with the Lady Lions. The post season will begin on Sunday, the Big 10 Tourney.
